This is not like the usual books I do reviews on. This is not a fiction. It is inspirational! I found it fitting that there was a blog tour going for this book in the month of February.
The author, Rhonda Stoppe, shares her own love story in the first chapter. The remainder of the book is about other couples who have found real life romance. Rhonda has written out their love stories, one chapter per couple. Toward the end of each chapter, some inspirational thoughts are thrown in for good measure. I also found it neat that there is a picture (small, but there, nonetheless) included of each couple. It gives a bit more of a real feel to it, when you can actually picture what they look like, while you are reading their story.
One thing that disappointed me just a bit about this book, some of the marriages included are marriages after a divorce. I believe that God’s design, as stated in the Bible, is that marriage is for life; and that divorce and remarriage is not an option.
I do love reading about how God brings people together. Granted, it’s not like I used to think…you meet the guy, you fall in love, and then you have a happily ever after.
No, it’s so much more than that…marriage is work. it’s hard work. And it takes God.
Interestingly enough, the anniversary of our ‘proposal date’ is also in February. Yes, my husband proposed to me on Valentine’s Day, of all days! And it’s been 18 years! It’s hard to believe it’s been that long! 🙂
I shudder to think how little we knew back then. About life, about each other, about acting like adults. And more. But God has been faithful. Our journey is still in progress. We keep having ups and downs. I think probably every relationship has this. As much as I hate the hard times, I think it makes me appreciate the mountain top times even more.
And I am so thankful that God knows me so much better than I know myself. He knew who I was at 22, and who I’d be now. And who I needed to walk beside me through all those years. Who wouldn’t give up on me as I learned how to deal with life and its issues. I’m so thankful for a loving, committed husband who has stayed with me and stuck by me even in those days when I am struggling.
Yes, we are still on a journey. But looking back, I am extremely thankful we are here now, and not back there!
I’d love to hear from you! Tell me about your story-If you’re married, how did you & your husband meet? Feel free to include as much of your journey as you’d like to share. I think it would be interesting to share bits & pieces of various journeys here. (I would only share with your permission)
But now…back to the book review…there is a Giveaway going on!
