Book Review – A Worthy Rebel

A Worthy Rebel

by Jody Hedlund

Genre: Historical, Medieval, YA

Isn’t this cover absolutely beautiful?! This book is considered a YA novel….but I am admitting that I still enjoy this type of read. 😉 I love medieval settings. I love the time period, the land, the food, the clothes, all of it….and when I was given the opportunity to be on the launch team for this book, I jumped for it!

This is only one book in a series of five, by Jody Hedlund. The series is called An Uncertain Choice. I was trying to decide if I’ve read the others in this series. I think I have, but it’s been a little while ago, so I’m not completely sure…anyhow, this book does work as a stand-alone. Although, I have a feeling there are some details that I read that would have made more sense if I’d have just read the previous books.

Lady Isabelle is expected to marry well. When she travels to the castle of her soon-to-be-betrothed, some unfortunate events occur and she gets to see how that gentleman (if he can be called that) treats the peasants on his land. Quite frankly, she can’t even stomach it.

Trusting in her faithful servant, she decides to make a run for it.

This is just a bit like some other tales of this nature…a lady is disguised as a peasant, and then she encounters all kinds of things, the peasants don’t know who she is, think she is one of them, and well, I won’t tell you the rest, you’ll have to read it.

What I would like to say is that this book is very well written and caught my attention from the very first page. Action packed. Some suspense, mixed in with a bit of romance…and even though, at first glance, the story seems a bit familiar…well, I was pleasantly surprised!
