Shadows of Suspicion by Ashley Dawn
About the book:
Revenge is the agenda…“Find my sister.” Rick Reiley’s words were what drove Luke to search mercilessly for Kerry. He is in a race against time to find her and will have to face more than a criminal mastermind to get close to her. He is prepared to give his life for her, but what about his heart?
“…I would like you to meet….My wife.” Those words from her enigmatic rescuer threw Kerry more than anything else that had happened to her in the last few days…and that was saying a lot! Kerry’s simple life is turned upside down when she is kidnapped and dragged to the middle of nowhere by a madman. She trusts Luke with her life, but can she trust him with her heart? As Luke fights to keep Kerry safe, the chemistry ignites and the danger gets closer. Will God protect them while Luke tries to sort out his heart….and capture Kerry’s?
My Thoughts
Romantic suspense is my favorite genre, and I’m always looking for new favorite authors. So when Celebrate Lit offered the chance to help promote this one, I jumped for it. I really wanted to like (hopefully love) this book.
Kerry gets kidnapped. She’s not sure what is going on. Luke comes to her rescue.
The story line is great. The characters are likeable. And there’s suspense. Even some romance. What more could you want, right?
The more I read, though, the more I realized that this book just is not going to be one that ends up on the top of my list of recommendations. I’ve heard it said recently that books should be written in a way that shows the action, rather than just telling it. This book feels like a lot of telling and not much showing.
Another thing that threw me for a bit of a loop…I was reading the kindle version and the character view kept switching back and forth between characters. I had to really pay attention and make sure I knew who was doing the talking….but this is an issue that might have already been changed.
This mystery is definitely more of a light read. I think for someone who prefers to not have as much of deep, dark, suspenseful mystery, but likes light, easy mysteries, this book might be a better fit.
If you are looking for a mystery, a book that is clean reading, than you ought to give this a try!
