This devotional was both refreshing and inspirational. Each chapter begins with a verse. Then there are some quotes from the book, and inspirational thoughts, to tie the book and the Scriptural thoughts together. Because I hadn’t read The Secret Garden real recently, I found it helpful to read that chapter just before reading the accompanying devotional chapter.
I loved seeing the correlations the author made between the book and the Biblical application.
I found it to be just a beautiful way to enjoy an old favorite classic story. It helped me see the story in a new light. It also brought fresh inspiration to Bible verses and their themes.
If you are a fan of the old classics, and The Secret Garden in particular, I highly recommend this devotional. I think it would be a great devotional to read with my daughters, and I hope to do that in the near future.

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am
making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:19
Mary, who thought “perhaps it always rained or looked dark in England,” is
stunned by the dramatic shift. Martha says the “storm’s over for a bit” and “th’
springtime’s on its
way.” Though it’s “a long way off yet,” it’s surely coming.
Mary’s first glimpses of spring and her discovery of the key to the secret garden
carry a timely reminder that God often works in mysterious and hidden ways that
are beyond our comprehension. In our winter seasons, when there’s no visible or
outward sign of change, God is always actively at work. When we don’t see any
forward progress, His plans and purposes are unfolding and developing in ways
we can’t imagine. When everything looks bare and wintry, He’s working below
the surface. And at just the right time, He places the key to His plans and
purposes right at our feet. Nothing is impossible with God! (Matthew 19:26)
